  My brother died yesterday

  "albert" was 55 years old, and the fifth-born of seven children.

  i am the second oldest and babysat him often while he was growing up --- and while i was still at home.. yesterday, albert was out taking his usual morning stroll around his small town, when he collapsed on the sidewalk.

  the doctors said it was a heart attack.

  Question for apostates!

  i have a question.. the conventional wisdom seems to be that to 'convert' a jehovah's witness (or get them to see ttatt) you have to ask questions that they cannot answer and engage with their true personality not their 'cult personality'.. intellectual arguments tend to fall flat because jws (who do not already have personal doubts) believe they already know the absolute truth so anything contrary to that truth is nessecarily wrong.

  any criticism of their beliefs will be seen as an attack or persecution and will be dismissed as flawed 'human thinking' or 'apostate lies'.. to 'true believers' any amount of contrary evidence and illogical inconsistencies in their beliefs can be dismissed or explained away.

  their starting point is that they have special knowledge of absolute truth and all evidence and arguments are then weighed against this preconceived belief.. here is my question.

  I'm not an apostate of any church as I never joined one.

  Trying to extract a cult member from any cult using tactics that the leaders have warned them about is pretty much futile. It only has any real chance of working when the member already has doubts.

  You have to try and get to them while they are trying to convert you, not when they are trying to protect their delusions, themselves, their families and their fellow cult members from you.

  The medical specialist told me something alarming today. Pretty bummed.

  so i've been going to doctors for years with chronic fatigue, a condition i managed ok but which took a drastic nose dive in late 2011 to 2012 to the point where i could barely function.

  work was part of the problem, so at the end of that year i left that stressful environment.

  but in the meantime, for the last few years i've been going to doctors, specialists, psychiatrists and psychologists and undergoing every sort of blood test you can imagine and seeing all sorts of medical people.

  Ask for an example of an article that demonstrates that Asa's pursuing a degree is supported by the WT, that she should be supported by the congregation for decision, and that anyone who gives her a hard time is out of line with official policy.

  Don't give her multiple questions to choose from. Already know the official answer so that she can't trick you.

  Number of anointed partakers in new yearbook?

  i haven't seen the 2014 yearbook on the jw site yet.

  i'm looking to see if the number of partakers has increased again (as it has for many years now).

  anyone have a scan of it yet?.

  Some of the 144,000 already launched, have gotten bored with sitting on their clouds waiting for something to do and have defected, therefore new partakers are to be expected for their replacements.

  JWs took off from work in 1975?

  a friend of mine is an electrician supervisor.

  back in 1975, one of his employees was a jw.

  the jw was so convinced that 1975 would bring the end of the world, that the jw took off from work (like, the first week in january) and sat on the top of a north carolina mountain waiting for armegheddon.

  I know of a couple of Kiwi families that sold up and bought motorhomes so that they could spend the last days pioneering. They were still living in their buses years after Jehovah forgot to show up.

  Strange things happening...

  some strange things are happening.. 1. wife started smoking.

  2. wife agreed that the whole "clean up after armageddon while growing to perfection" thing is all speculation.. 3. as i was going to the meeting tonight (i had a part and kids are sick so she stayed in) she says "do you have to go?"..

  4. when i got home she says " i wanna go out and party..... hmmmmmm.

  Is it just me or has this site become a Believer/Atheist warzone?

  i enjoy the odd thread about evoloution vs creation, etc but lately it seems that a large percentage of threads here devolve into fighting between atheists and theists and distract from what most of us here see eye to eye on, the wt and related things.

  i wish things could be more civil here and fr people to realize that people will never see eye to eye on the topic.

  it gets so tiring to see the contstant bickring and fighting on those threads.. they seem to go on page after page but very little of substance is discussed seeing as the existence or non existence of a god can be proven by anyone.

  A word they are re-defining to fit their new definition of 'this generation' is 'contemporary'. Look it up in any dictionary.

  There is nothing about this word that suggests a mere overlap. The kids you went to school with are your contemporaries, not your teachers, headmasters, grandparents, greatgrandparents, greatgrandchildren, etc..

  Make your Dubs take a position, then look up the word and get them to explain it to you.

  You always have to get your Dub to take a position before you ask them any awkward question. They will deny a whole raft of embarrassing doctrines and attitudes if they know what you are targetting, so steal their opportunity to do that before you ask your question.

  ... and don't forget to smile and look like a potential convert or lost sheep while you do it.
